The name of Vittorio Veneto is inseparably tied to the end of the First World War and the memory of that event of 1918 still today puts the town among the main destinations of historical tourism. From October 1917 to October 1918 together with the Friuli and that part of Veneto up to the left side of the river Piave the town experienced the harshness of the occupation by the Austrian-German army that established there the VI Army Headquarters. A tangible sign of these events is the Museo della Battaglia (Museum of the Battle), one the the oldest and more important Musems of the First World War in Italy containing relics, documents, photos and films of great interest to whoever wants to know more about those events. The Castrum of Serravalle can be a very good starting point of a journey helping to understand better what the battle of Vittorio Veneto has really been.
